Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Coaching and how is it different than therapy?
Coaching empowers clients to gain clarity about their current state (self-awareness and self-assessment), define where they want to go (vision casting), and create a tailored plan (goal setting) to achieve meaningful results. A coach serves as a partner in your growth, helping you uncover insights, set priorities, and stay motivated to reach your goals. By asking thought-provoking questions and fostering self-discovery, coaching supports clients in finding their own answers and unlocking their full potential across various areas of life.
Coaching is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment, nor does it involve addressing past traumas or managing mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety. For clients in Colorado and Florida for whom professional counseling is more appropriate, we are proud to partner with Supportive Counseling.
How can a coach help me?
A coach can help you clarify your goals, overcome obstacles, and stay accountable to your plans. Whether you want to improve your career, relationships, confidence, or overall well-being, a coach provides tools, strategies, and support tailored to your unique situation. They help you unlock your potential and create lasting change. Copilot Coaching specializes in career changes, work/life and career decisions, however coaching is appropriate in many situations including health/wellness goals, time management, personal goal-setting, stress management, self-awareness, confidence-building and more.
Who should consider working with a coach?
Coaching is for anyone looking to make positive changes in their life, gain clarity on their goals, or overcome challenges. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals who feel stuck, are navigating major transitions, or want to reach their full potential in specific areas. At Copilot, we help clients build a Possibilities Mindset, where self-discovery is considered the foundation to all transformation. Our Individual and Executive coaching builds functional enlightenment: a deeper connection with your authentic self, then applying that knowledge for change - individually and across your relationships with others. We support individual (independent) as well as executive (business-sponsored) clients, but in either case our focus is on building a more authentic, aware and connected sense of self from which positive results, relationships and action follow.
How long does it take to see results from coaching?
The timeline for results varies depending on your goals and the frequency of sessions. Some clients see noticeable changes after just a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over several months or longer. Life coaching is a process, and the results depend on your commitment, the scope of your goals, and the actions you take between sessions.
What is the difference between executive coaching and individual life coaching?
Executive coaching focuses on helping professionals improve their leadership skills, enhance workplace performance, and navigate career challenges. It is typically tailored to organizational goals, leadership development, and professional growth within a business or corporate setting. Individual life coaching, on the other hand, is broader and more personal. It helps clients address various aspects of their lives, such as relationships, health, confidence, or work-life balance. While executive coaching is career-focused, individual life coaching encompasses both personal and professional goals to create a more balanced and fulfilling life overall. Both types of coaching provide personalized guidance and support but are geared toward different objectives based on the client’s needs. Copilot offers both Individual and Executive Coaching.
What is the ERA of Change™ Model?
The ERA of Change™ Model is our unique approach to coaching. ERA of Change™ integrates deep self-assessment, re-framing, positive psychology, mindfulness and behavior change science to create a rich experience with meaningful results. The system provides tools that Clients can apply across various challenges and circumstances, creating a lasting and high-value experience.
Explore. Coaching begins by re-establishing and re-connecting you with your values. A strong foundation is essential, because many of us live day-to-day through subconscious defense and coping mechanisms that cloud our authentic selves. When coaching begins without deep self-exploration and establishment, work and effort are put forth that can exacerbate inauthentic foundations, or ultimately cause more confusion. After a pre-coaching assessment, we leverage a number of tools customized on your needs to assess your self-concept, blind spots, focus areas and motivations.
Reframe. Reframing is the work of learning to see an issue or "truth" from various points of view. It helps clients to consider perspectives they may not have previously, while simultaneously generating open-mindedness. Much of the work in coaching is helping clients to move away from undesirable habits, environments and beliefs towards more positive ones. However, much coaching today expects clients to spontaneously see and connect with these new possibilities. It's like asking someone to know what they don't know. At Copilot, before we ask clients to set goals and actions, we emphasize reframing to reduce biased, encourage brainstorming and a Possibilities Mindset™.
Act. Commercial coaching today, like our culture, can be extremely action and urgency-oriented. While important, action is only sustainable and capable of its full potential when it is founded on behaviors and beliefs that are integrated and authentic to the individual. SMART Goals are important, but often churned out without pretense resulting in short-lived results and frustration. Our approach, following the above foundation, is to pair SMART Goal setting with behavior change science, rewards-based progression, and positive reinforcement. When the action is enjoyable and automatic, it builds momentum, creates capacity for critical thought and reflection, and produces more meaningful results.
What does success look like with coaching?
Success with coaching looks different for everyone because it’s tailored to your unique goals and challenges. Many clients find that they are able to achieve goals they once thought were out of reach. Others experience improved confidence, self-esteem, and a greater sense of clarity and purpose. Coaching often equips clients with practical tools and strategies they can continue to use long after coaching on a specific topic has ended.
Success also means feeling better prepared to handle life’s challenges, whether in your career, relationships, or personal growth journey. Think of it as an investment in yourself—just like the investments you make in clothes, food, or entertainment. Why not dedicate that same energy and resources to your own growth and fulfillment? Coaching can be the step that helps you unlock your full potential and create a life you truly love.
